Oval ivory diptych dial incorporating a nocturlabe, France, dated 1593.
Ivory, brass, steel and paper; 4.8x3.9x1.6 cm.
Small oval pocket diptych, unsigned but French, dated 1593.
The dial has a small brass nocturlabe without graduation on its upper side.
Inside is a wire-axis dial and a floating compass hand-painted in red, blue and gold. On the underside, a set of 4 decorative circles.
Rare form of a small dial-nocturlabe compendium from the late 16th century.
