Description
An important pair of finely chased and gilt bronze candelabra with three foliate arms joined by a laurel leaf garland around a fluted shaft supporting a covered vase decorated with the heads of bearded men, the reversible cover forming a fourth spigot.
After a model by Jean-Charles Delafosse, circa 1770.

Another pair in the David-Weill collection, as well as one formerly in the collection of the Marquess of Hertford, then his son, Sir Richard Wallace (Christie's sale 1 Dec 2016 Lot 266).
Ours may be in the collection of the Marquise du Luart, sold in Paris on 5 December 1959, lot 54 (Fig. 1).
