Pierre-Philippe Thomire (1751-1843) was one of the most famous Parisian bronzemakers of the Empire style. Trained by Pierre Gouthière, he notably took part in the decoration of Louis XVI's coronation carriage before opening his own workshop in 1776. He worked with great cabinet-makers such as Guillaume Beneman and Adam Weisweiler. He became Napoleon Bonaparte's favourite bronzemaker and was given the title of "Ciseleur de l'Empereur". His firm, renowned for its bronzes signed "THOMIRE A PARIS", continued in business until 1850.
