Jacques Nicolas Brunot (1763-1826) Lion's head moulded on nature Rare plaster sculpture of a roaring lion's head, signed on the back Brunot 1816. (Restorations and accidents) H. 38 cm - W. 43 cm - D. 39 cm History: Our lion's head was exhibited under number 1060 at the 1817 Salon of the Musée Royal des Arts, now the Musée du Louvre. Bellier de la Chavignerie and Stanislas Lami described Jacques Nicolas Bruno (1763-1826) as an animal sculptor who specialised mainly in representing the anatomy of the horse. He exhibited at the Salon from 1808 to 1822, and it was at the Salon of 1817 that he presented, in addition to our Tête de lion moulée sur nature (under no. 1060), le Lion (under no. 1059) and Pattes disseéquées du lion (under no. 1061). The Musée des Beaux-Arts in Angers holds an equestrian statuette of Henri IV.
