Description
Backgammon set in mahogany and mahogany veneer.
The reversible playing surface features leather (damaged) framed by mahogany on one side and worn felt on the other.
Inside is a backgammon set with an ebony-veneered board and twenty-four ivory and green-stained ivory pieces; it is framed by two mahogany trays. Twenty-eight ivory medallions and two squares housing the candlesticks are set into the frame.
The body features two drawers and two false drawers.
It stands on four tapered, fluted legs ending in clogs and castors.
Stamped ‘J. Caumont (Jean) maître’ in 1774 beneath a side rail.
