Description
An exceptional boat-shaped bed in speckled moiré mahogany. The tops of the rounded headboards are moulded on the front. It rests on crossbars that are moulded on three sides, joined at the corners by four sturdy rounded legs. Extremely rich ornamentation in gilded bronze featuring rosettes, palmettes, swans, olive branches, poppies, and a medallion depicting Diana and her attributes surrounded by a garland of laurel leaves. The front legs are also fitted with bronze. In very fine condition. 108 x 209 x 114.5 cm. Empire period. Some missing parts and four missing foot tips. Work attributable to Jacob D.R.
