Description
China, Qing dynasty, Qianlong period (1736–1795). A rare ‘Famille Rose’ porcelain plate. Rectangular in shape, it depicts the ‘Hundred Children’ (Baizitu) motif, showing the children at play and enjoying themselves in a vast, tree-lined garden, punctuated by pavilions and opening out onto a mountainous landscape. This exuberant composition, emblematic of the decorative repertoire of the Qianlong period, evokes wishes for prosperity, fertility and numerous descendants. The frame is carved from wood with archaic-style dragon motifs. Dimensions: 42.8 x 56 cm (excluding the frame). Overall dimensions: 49.8 x 65.8 cm. Backboard missing.
