A LANTERN MASTER KEY, 18TH CENTURY
10 CM - 3,9 IN.
From the Renaissance to the 19th century, the lantern master key represented the masterpiece of a locksmith's trade.
Whether they were shoemakers, cabinetmakers, blacksmiths or locksmiths, all craftsmen, according to tradition, had to prove their mastery of the trade at the end of their apprenticeship by producing an exceptional piece of work. It's a true demonstration of know-how, a testament to perfect knowledge of the trade.
The refinement of the scrolls and the attention to detail illustrate the excellence of the work of the locksmith, who received this key as a symbol of success once he had obtained the title of master.
