Description
PAIR OF BOWLS BY FERDINAND BARBEDIENNE, ONE SIGNED HENRY CAHIEUX (1825-1854), CIRCA 1850 Circular, in gilt bronze with brown patina, standing on a pedestal with moulded base and shaft decorated with pearls and foliage, surmounted by the bowl illustrating two fables by La Fontaine "The wolf and the lamb" - "The duck and the rabbit" with plants, the handles with webbed clasps and fleurons. Octagonal base with fluted column. Signed Henry Cahieux and F.Barbedienne A PAIR OF BARBEDIENNE CUPS, ONE SIGNED BY HENRY CAHIEUX, CIRCA 1850 19,50 x 20,50 x 13 CM - 7,7 x 8,1 x 5,1 IN. Henry Cahieux, chief decorator at the Barbedienne foundry, exhibited at the 1850 and 1853 Salons. At the Exposition Universelle in Paris in 1855, his lamps won a Medal of Honour at the Barbedienne stand. He died at a very young age and the adventure was never to continue.
