Description
AN ALL-ROUND "BONHEUR-DU-JOUR", STAMPED BY GUILLAUME CORDIÉ (1725-1785), LOUIS XV PERIOD in rosewood, violetwood and sycamore veneer, inlaid with reserve frames and fillets. It opens at the waist with two small drawers and on the top with a flap revealing a green leather-covered writing tablet, two compartments and a secret drawer. It is topped by a gallery top opening on to a sliding flap with slats, two drawers and a locker. It stands on cambered legs ending in hooves with castors. With maker's mark (Damage, cracks and restorations to the veneer) A KINGWOOD AND SYCAMORE MARQUETRY LOUIS XV BONHEUR-DU-JOUR, STAMPED BY GUILLAUME CORDIÉ (1725-1785), 18TH CENTURY 102 x 65 x 65,50 CM - 40,2 x 25,6 x 25,8 IN. Guillaume CORDIÉ (1725-1785) was awarded the title of Master in 1766. He had a clear predilection for small pieces of furniture with simple, elegant veneers.
