Description
MIDDLE TABLE, LOUIS XIV STYLE, SECOND HALF OF THE 19th CENTURY
Rectangular, in blackened wood veneer, tortoiseshell marquetry and Boulle blue-stained horn decorated with birds, foliage and flowers; gilded bronzes. It opens at the waist with a secret drawer framed by a frieze of rais-de-cœurs with a central escutcheon bordered by a drapery with passementerie. The other side has the same decoration, while the sides are adorned with a faun mask. The sheathed uprights are joined by a stylised X-shaped brace centred on a spinning top. Small tapered legs.
The top is centred on a blue and brown leather top decorated with reserves underlined by gold fillets. It is bordered by a moulding with a foliate frieze on an amati background and friezes of ovals, with foliate escutcheons with masks of men at the spandrels.
