Oval canvas Height: 73 cm Width: 58.5 cm Carved and gilded wooden frame, Louis XIV period Previous restorations Expert: Turquin gallery An identical composition, in which the sitter is set within a faux oval frame, was sold at Ader-Tajan auction house, Paris, 11 April 1992, lot 95 (Alexis Simon Belle, oil on canvas, 81 x 65 cm). We may compare our painting with the Presumed Portrait of Madame de Graffigny (1695–1758), writer (canvas, 81 x 65 cm) painted by Louis Tocqué and held at the Louvre Museum.
