Figurative CROCODILE cork press in an attacking stance Zoomorphic depiction of a crocodile with its head raised. Cast-iron cork press with a dark patina, designed to be pressed down or secured to a table. Suitable for 4 sizes of cork. France. Late 19th century. Model featured in the book by BULL & PARADI, *Wine Antiques & Collectibles*. Cork presses – of the pharmacy or laboratory type. These objects were used to compress corks that had been previously scalded, in order to reduce their size and facilitate their insertion into bottles.
