ROLLING PIN, or ‘pastry roller’, in blue glass with a painted floral design. Late 19th century. L. 37.5 cm. (signs of wear). A second one with a black and polychrome background is included. Note: Rolling Pins have the shape and English name of rolling pins but are not actually rolling pins; they were made by sailors as gifts for the women they loved (fiancées, mothers, sisters, etc.). Bristol made them its speciality in the second half of the 19th century.
