The crown bears a strong resemblance to a lost piece from the Tudor Crown Jewels, the
Tudor State Crown. This was created for Henry VIII and disappeared during the English Civil War in 1649, having been melted down
on the orders of Lord Protector Oliver Cromwell. Another symbolic object from the Tudor Crown Jewels is present
: the ‘Orb of State’, the royal globe.
The portrait is comparable to the engraving by Willem Jacobsz. Delff.
