Description
Umberto GIUNTI (Italy, 1886–1970) Portrait of a Cardinal Tempera on brick 40 x 31 cm Umberto Giunti was a Sienese painter, described by Federico Zeri as ‘il fasario in Calicinaccio’ – meaning a forger on plaster – or ‘the foger on plaster’. He specialised in imitating Renaissance figures between 1900 and 1950. Today, many of his forgeries remain in major museums, notably the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, in Boston, and in Geneva. Three works by this artist are also held at the National Gallery in Dublin, one at the museum in Warsaw, and in private collections.
