Pierre Charles COMTE (1823–1895). A young Dutch woman embroidering by the light from the window, with goldfinches in a cage (Young Dutch Woman Embroidering) Oil on panel, signed lower right H.. 77 cm - W. 54 cm Some scuffing, and a small tear in the upper section Note: A painter from Lyon trained in the studio of Joseph-Nicolas Robert-Fleury, the artist exhibited regularly at the Salon. This work corresponds to his painting listed in the archives under the title *Young Dutch Lady Embroidering*, presented at the 1866 Salon (no. 439) and whose current whereabouts are unknown. It was displayed there alongside another of his compositions: *Charles V, after his abdication and before retiring to the convent of Saint-Just, revisits the castle in Ghent where he was brought up* (no. 438).
