TOWER-SHAPED TABLE CLOCK, hexagonal in shape and topped by a pierced dome (for the chime) featuring cut-out leather motifs and floral scrollwork The main face features a circular dial with two hands against an eight-pointed star background, and Roman numerals Beneath the dial, an engraved coat of arms Each side is decorated with engraved medallions depicting Jupiter, Diana, Mars, Minerva and Venus, based on designs by the Antwerp engraver Adriaen Collaert (c. 1560–1618) Small openings simulating a window on two sides The back is stamped with the mark ‘.I.DE.LA.GAR.DE.A.BLOIS.1557.’ within a foliage-decorated cartouche Gilded copper Mechanical movement with key-winding, not original Jacques de Lagarde in Blois, 1557 H. 15 cm – W. 10.5 cm – D. 9.5 cm Several areas missing; the original movement is missing Note: This clock, shaped like a castle tower, illustrates the exceptional craftsmanship of Blois’s artisans during the Renaissance.
