Description
A mahogany-veneered display cabinet with two glass-panelled doors at the front, featuring rounded mullions; it rests on four small curved legs. The top is of veined grey marble. Transition Period Stamped DELORME and B. DURAND, JME hallmark (Adrien DELORME, admitted as a master in 1748; Bon DURAND, admitted as a master in 1761) H: 130 W: 98 D: 44 cm (dents, restorations, cracks at the base) Note: The piece is stamped twice: the Jurande des Menuisiers Ebéniste hallmark, JME, can be seen beneath the marble, as well as Bon Durand’s stamp. Admitted as a master on 18 February 1761, he set up shop on Rue de Charenton and worked for merchants. The piece is also stamped twice by Adrien Delorme. Adrien Delorme was admitted as a master on 22 June 1748. He is known as a furniture maker and dealer. It is this dual role as both maker and dealer that explains the double stamp.
