Description
JAPAN - MEIJI period (1868 - 1912) Small portable iron cabinet inlaid with gold, decorated on the front with the temple of Chion (in Kyoto), on the sides with Miyajima (the island of Itsukushima), and the port of Shimizu, on the back with a pair of cranes among bamboo. The inside of the door decorated with three poly-lobed reserves with birds on a background of "manji" (svatiska) characters, opening to four drawers decorated with medallions and kiku (chrysanthemums) on a background of "manji" (swastika) characters. The door handle is in the shape of a butterfly, the handles of the four drawers in the shape of chrysanthemums. On the reverse the Kyoto Komai saku mark and the raku stamp. Size: 7.5 x 8.2 x 6 cm
