VERLAINE, Paul (1844-1896). Autograph poem, untitled [Nascita di Venere]. S.l.n.d. 1 page in-8. Erasures and corrections. A few stains and folds, minor chipping. Beautiful poem in the collection "Epigrams" (1894, XVI - 7), inspired by Botticelli's famous painting. "Venus, standing on the most beautiful of seashells / Borders naked on the wildest of shores / Hiding from her body with her long hair / Just enough for our wishes to dart / A nymph unfurling a light cloak hurries / To clothe the goddess as empress / And two rushing Winds, beautiful winged ephebes / Mingling thighs and arms / Of whom one is Zephyr and the other Boreas / Blow divine love and sacred hatred [...] ". The name and address of "Louis Roche 29 Gay Lussac" appear in pencil at the foot of the document.
