MIRROR WRITING. Letter signed. Paris, 11 May 1755. 1 p. 1/2 in-4. Uncommon handwritten letter written in specular script, i.e. with the help of a mirror, to make it illegible to those who did not possess one, i.e. most people at the time. It is addressed to M. Duchesne, Provost of the King's Buildings at Versailles, and contains a favourable reply to an invitation, etc. Armorial wax seal preserved. Leonardo da Vinci was particularly fond of specular handwriting.
