[PALACE OF THE LEGION OF HONOUR]. LACÉPÈDE, Charles de. L.A.S. Paris, 6 July 1808. 1 p. folio. Beautiful and long recommendation for the painter Louis Hersent, written by his friend Charles de Lacépède, son of the great French naturalist, zoologist and herpetologist Bernard Germain Etienne de LACÉPÈDE, member of the Société d'Horticulture de Paris Talking about the future embellishments of the Palais de la Légion d'Honneur and his father, the Comte de Lacépède: "I thought that there might be some figures to paint and restore". To this end, he strongly recommended "Mr Hersent, with whom I studied painting. Mr Hersent has great talent; he has exhibited several large paintings with great success. He has done several portraits of my father and is currently working on one of his wife which is very lifelike and perfectly executed [...]". Charles de Lacépède again mentions his father, "who is very fond of M.
