Description
Mathieu BEFORT known as BEFORT JEUNE (1813-1880). Piece of furniture with a height of support in wood of veneer arranged in frieze. The cut-out base has rounded feet, extending from the fluted uprights. It opens to the right with a leaf centred on a gilded bronze medallion depicting a scene of harvesting putti. Recessed Languedoc marble top. Rich ormolu ornamentation in the Rococo style (some added). Late 19th century. Stamped "BEFORT JEUNE". Height: 115 cm; Length: 137 cm; Depth: 40 cm Mathieu Béfort lived at 1 and 6 rue Neuve-Saint-Gilles in Paris from 1844 to 1880. Mathieu Béfort's stamps evolved over the course of his career. His early work bore the signature "Béfort Jeune", before he adopted the monogram "BJ", used in particular for furniture made in his workshops but not necessarily the personal work of the master.
