Description
A rosewood and brass veneered travel set with scrolled corners and an SR monogram surmounted by a Ducal crown. When open, it reveals a removable mirror, a set of bottles, boxes and inkwells in cut crystal and silver, and a number of steel and tortoiseshell utensils such as a penholder, stamp holder, boot hook, shoehorn, manicure items, hair clippers, scissors, awl, corkscrew ....., pouches and cases, cassettes, letter holders, etc. Most of the steel items are engraved "AUCOC", one blade engraved "Aucoc Breveté du Roi" (Louis-Philippe). The lock plate is engraved "AUCOC AINÉ A PARIS". The silver lids are engraved with a Ducal crown. This box, monogrammed "SR", was commissioned from Aucoc for Sosthène II de La Rochefoucauld (1825-1908), 4th Duke of Doudeville, 1st class Grand Duke of Spain, 1st Duke of Bisaccia, French Ambassador to the United Kingdom ....
