Saint-Louis. An important Saint-Louis crystal service, "Thistle" model, comprising 57 pieces including 8 champagne flutes, 10 American water glasses, 10 wine glasses, 5 flared bowls, 8 cups with handles, 6 mugs, a large flat bowl, a pedestal bowl, 2 salt cellars, a square carafe, a water jug, an ewer and an ashtray. Signed with a stamp 20th century Worn from use The emblem of the city of Nancy, the thistle inspired a first service in 1908. In 1913, the name was anglicised to become Thistle and has since shone on the finest tables. Fine Venetian ribs, bevelled edges and a frieze of 24-carat gold or platinum decorate the finery.
