Description
Reliquary bust in cast silver and ivory representing Saint Benno (Benoit), Bishop of Meissen. The bishop is depicted in bust form, dressed in a rich stone cloak, with a cross around his neck. He is wearing a mitre. His face and hands are carved in ivory. It stands on an octagonal base built in the Gothic style with chapels with pointed arches and pinnacles decorated with applied scenes depicting the life of Christ. Marks on the back and base. Germany, 13 and N. About 1880-1895 H. 19.5 - W. 12.2 (at base) - D. 10.2 (at base) cm Gross weight: 618 g Oxidation, dents, scratches, bolster glued back together, small missing little finger on the left hand. Missing the two pieces of ribbon on the back of the bolster between the bolster and the neck. The keys in the gills are missing. The right hand has been reshaped in resin and painted in the style of ivory. The stock is detached from the right hand.
