Description
Eugène DELACROIX (1798-1863) - French painter. He was the main representative of Romanticism in France.
L.a.s. "Eug. Delacroix" Slnd (Paris), one page in-4, creasing and marked middle fold. Taken up with work on an important painting, he apologises to a publisher for not being able to produce a lithographic portrait intended to appear in a book, where it could be replaced by a medal: "it is not impossible to say in a note that we have contented ourselves with putting this medal and one more plate. The subscribers will take my word for it, as I am obliged to admit my incapacity when it comes to lithographic portraits, which always require a certain degree of finish".
