Description
VOLTAIRE François-Marie Arouet, known as Voltaire (1694-1778) - French writer and philosopher. Manuscript of 4 pp. gd in-4 on thick laid paper, watermarked G. MARCHEVAL. The first page is marked ''Hist. de France'', and consists of a series of short paragraphs written at various times, containing notes and reflections on historical and particular events since Hugues Capet. These notes were probably intended to be used in his historical accounts and essays. - Since Hugues Capet until Louis XIV no King of France has spent 60 years in power. - Du Guesclin buried with the ceremonies of kings 4 princes of the blood were at the funeral; his horses present in the church of St. Denis - Under Charles VI there was the king of the ribauds, the king of the violins, the prince of fools, like the king of arms this last one remains and is as useless as the others. - If Louis XIII had not had the Cardinal de Richelieu he would have been dethroned - Henry the Fourth, after his victories, his abjuration and his coronation, had a cross erected in Rome - King Philippe de Hardy sent a Flanders beguine to find out if he was a cuckold - The Duke of Sully, complaining about the parliaments, said that if reason and justice could exist on earth, they would rather be in the head of a single man than in that of an assembly.
