George WASHINGTON (1732-1799) - First President of the United States of America (1789-1797, two terms) Signed by George WASHINGTON and countersigned by Secretary of State Timothy PICKERING, dated Philadelphia 20 May 1796, at the end of his second term as President. Duplicate of James SIMPSON's accreditation as Consul to His Majesty the Emperor of MOROCCO. The document bears the Great Seal of the United States applied to paper at the bottom left. Dimensions 28 c 35.5 cm. Fairly good condition, writing faded in places. On the left-hand side of the document is the indication: "This duplicate is the property of Thomas RESTOW BERWICK".
