Jean-Marie RIBOU (1744-1817) Portrait of Léon de Brivazac, comte de Beaumont commander of the Fort du Hâ Oval miniature signed lower right, 18 k (750 thousandths) yellow gold frame, braided hair (front glass missing). Height: 3.4 cm - Width: 2.8 cm Léon de Brivazac (1734 - 1804) count of Beaumont, knight of Saint Louis, commander of the Fort du Hâ, summoned to the French army. Fort du Hâ, convened in 1789 at the Assembly of the Nobility of Bordeaux. The Fort du Hâ, also known as the Château du Hâ, is a former fortress in Bordeaux, on the site of which the law courts (Tribunal Judiciaire and Cour d'Appel) and the École Nationale de la Magistrature are currently located. It was built by decision of King Charles VII, immediately after the final recapture of Bordeaux from the King of England in 1453. Its two remaining towers (des Anglais and des Minimes) were listed as historic monuments on 12 April 1965. In 1731, a civil prison was set up in Le Hâ. On 20 June 1777, the German Emperor Joseph II, travelling incognito to Bordeaux under the name of Count Falkenstein, visited the town, its theatre and its châteaux. In August 1785, Louis XVI issued letters patent ordering the demolition of Château Trompette and, consequently, the construction of new barracks at Fort du Hâ. The architect Victor Louis was commissioned to build the new buildings in November 1786. His plans and specifications were accepted on 18 March 1788, but the project was not carried out due to the Revolution. Provenance: In the same family since the beginning.
