EMBOSSED AND CHASED SILVER SCULPTURE
Probably Italy circa 1650
Representing Saint John of Capestran standing, in a hollow, dressed in the Franciscan habit, his waist girded with the knotted rope characteristic of the order, his bearded face framed by a headdress, an open book in his left hand, a symbol of preaching, a sword in his right hand evoking his role as preacher during the crusade against the Ottomans; standing on a later wooden base.
Apparently without a goldsmith's hallmark
