Two Nevers faience wall-lights, early 17th century
A similar piece, attributed to the Conrade factory, is in the collections of the Musée national de Céramique de Sèvres.
The manufacture of these light arms, obtained by moulding and adding the arm before firing, was common throughout the 17th century. An example dated 1601 was sold by Me P. Sausverd, in Joigny on 20 March 1988, lot 18; another signed and dated "Nicolas 1671", at Drouot on 26 March 1973.
For an illustration of the first model cited, see Jean Rosen, La faïence de Nevers 1585-1900, T.2, L'Age d'or du XVIIe siècle, Dijon, 2009, p.87, fig.63; and page 145 for another model held in the collections of the Musée du Louvre.
