Description
CUVETTE BAROMETER, ENGLAND, FIRST QUARTER OF THE 18th CENTURY The silver dial decorated with openwork gilt brass appliques and flanked by brass columns, the case with a semi-circular walnut-veneered arch surmounted by three spherical finials. H. 105 cm (41 ¼ in.) Provenance: Acquired in 1991 from the Partridge Gallery, London. An English walnut and brass barometer, first quarter of the 18th century An elegant instrument that may be related to the instruments of John Patrick (fl 1686-c.1720), the first mathematical instrument maker to specialise in the production of barometers. Our example resembles the 'Single portable Barometer' shown on its advertising card circa 1710.
