XVIth CENTURY VENICE MAJOLIC PLAT, circa 1540
Probably the workshop of Maestro Jacomo da Pesaro
Cardinal shape, decorated in grisaille on a blue background, the centre with a portrait of a man in three-quarter view in a medallion, the side with a frieze of military trophies and a phylactery inscribed R.E.P.V.E.N., the reverse with a frieze of stylised arabesques decorated in alla porcellana, chips.

A Venetian majolica dish, early 16th century, circa 1540, probably workshop of the Maestro Jacomo de Pesaro
The inscription may be for Repubblica Veneziana.
Another dish attributed to Venice and to the painter Jacomo da Pesaro, with a similar decoration, is kept in the collections of the Palazzo Madama in Turin (Inv. 3112/C).
Two large dishes with the same type of decoration on the rim are in the collections of the Victoria Albert Museum in London. A similar small dish, dated 1544, was sold at Sotheby's, London, on 22 March 1971, lot 51.
