A large Florence faience vase, Cantagalli manufactory,
late 19th century, circa 1880
Ulisse Cantagalli (1839-1901), a great artist and businessman, took over the family factory in Florence in 1878. He began production with Renaissance-style decorations and developed metal chandelier techniques.
He died in 1901, but his wife and daughter continued his production, and finally sold the factory in 1934 to Amerigo Menegatti, their former artistic director.
