Description
LATE LOUIS XVI CONSOLE TABLE In mahogany and mahogany veneer, decorated with chased and gilded bronze, veined white marble top encircled by an openwork gallery, the waist opening into three drawers, the spindle-shaped uprights with curved flutes joined by a crotch shelf, the spindle-shaped legs ending in bronze sabots, bearing an apocryphal stamp F.I.PAPST and a JME hallmark on the right rear upright; a Louis XVI style console of the same model is attached en suite. H. 80.5 cm (31 ¾ in.) l. 113 cm (44 ½ in.) P. 44 cm (17 ¼ in.) Provenance: Acquired in December 1963 from Galerie Grognot & Joinel, Paris. A late Louis XVI gilt-bronze mounted and mahogany console desserte, together with a Louis XVI style console of the same model, both bearing a spurious stamp by François-Ignace Papst
