A terracotta faun head, by Léopold Renard (1868-1945), France, circa 1910
Léopold Renard's work is essentially composed of busts and allegorical figures, and bears witness to his attachment to ancient models while remaining in line with the artistic practices of his time. Although less well documented than some of his contemporaries, Renard played a full part in the sculptural landscape of the 19th century, between classical heritage and changing sensibilities.
