OVAL TABATIERE IN 18k (750) GOLD AND ENAMEL
Germany or Switzerland, circa 1780-1785
Decorated on a guilloché ground with wavy pink translucent enamel fillets with a series of red pastilles, the frames and pilasters with opalescent pearls and alternating leaves on an amati ground, the hinged lid decorated in the centre with a polychrome oval miniature depicting "Daphnis and Chloé", on the throat numbered: 521; small rivets replaced in the lid, small scratches on the enamel.
Marks:
In imitation of the Parisian hallmarks: of the master goldsmith Georges-Antoine Croze; of the letter-date S (1781-1782); of the charge; of the discharge.
