SMALL OVAL SILVER PLATTER
By Caspar Wolfgang Kolb, Augsburg, 1680-1684
The serrated edge, the border embossed with four cherubs, the centre engraved with two medallions representing Christ and the Virgin Mary, separated by tulips, intended to hold the cruets; engraved on the reverse of one of the medallions is the signature of the architect Carlo Barabino, an illustrious 19th-century Genoese architect and town planner, to whom the object probably belonged.
Hallmarks of Piedmont and Genoa after 1824 (dolphin and c, cross crowned with saints Maurice and Lazarus)
