H. 134 cm (52 ¾ in.) l. 89 cm (35 in.) Provenance : Sale Artcurial Paris, 16 December 2025, lot 20 ; Acquired during the latter sale by the current owner. A Regence giltwood mirror, in the taste of Nicolas Pineau (1684-1754) This shield-shaped mirror is reminiscent of Italian mirrors. However, the ornamentation belongs to the French decorative repertoire, in particular that of Nicolas Pineau, published by Mariette in Paris, in the collection Nouveaux dessins de plaques, consoles, torchères et médailles kept in the library of the Musée des Arts décoratifs in Paris. It includes in particular "plaques with gilded wood ornaments and glass backs to reflect the lights and bring more light into the flats..."; one of the cartouche models is adorned with a mask at the top while chimeras wind around the sides.
