PAIR OF ITALIAN CONSOLES FROM THE FIRST HALF OF THE 18th CENTURY
In carved wood, gilded and partly painted in imitation of Portor marble, restored marble top, the belt supported by three uprights, the central one decorated with an eagle seated on a tower, resting on a curved plinth ending in flattened ball feet; small accident on the rear left corner of one of the two marble tops.

The principle of an eagle supporting the central upright of the top of a console flanked by other two uprights with foliage scrolls can be found in a series of drawings by the architect Giacomo Amato for a set of consoles made for the Palazzo Abatellis in Palermo (see figs. 1-2).
