After a design by François-Joseph Bélanger (1744-1818) for the bedroom of the Comte d'Artois at the Château de Bagatelle
In steel, chased and gilded bronze, the shaft in the shape of a couleuvrine decorated at the bottom with a shield bearing the arms of France surmounted by a crown, the two arms of light decorated with oak branches; formerly electrified

A set of four Louis XVI style gilt-bronze and steel two-branch wall-lights, after the model by François-Joseph Bélanger (1744-1818) for the Comte d'Artois' bedroom at Bagatelle castle
This suite of wall lights is based on one of the watercolours created in 1777 by the architect François Joseph Belanger for the Comte d'Artois' bedroom at Bagatelle castle, with its military decor.
The white marble mantel was adorned with two vertical turquoise blue marble couleuvrines surmounted by bundles of spears, on either side of a mirror a pair of sconces with foliate branches that are similar to our series (fig. 1).
A pair of sconces from the Louis XVI period, close to the original model, with the lower part of the shaft also decorated with the arms of France, sold at Sotheby's Paris on 18-19 March 2015, lot 129.
