PAIR OF LOUIS XV PERIOD CORNER TABLES Stamped by Jacques Dubois In European varnish with gold decoration of cranes and chrysanthemums on a black background in frames imitating aventurine lacquers, Aleppo breccia marble top, chased and gilded bronze ornamentation, the front opening onto a door, arched legs adorned with bronze hooves, one stamped I.DUBOIS on the front right jamb, the other on the back; small accidents. H. 83 cm (32 ¾ in.) l. 60 cm (23 ½ in.) P. 46 cm (18 in.) Jacques Dubois, Master in 1742 Provenance: Sale in Paris, Hôtel Drouot, 10 June 1988, lot 114 ; Piguet sale, Geneva, 8 June 2021, lot 171 (CHF 26,187); Acquired during the latter sale by the current owner. A pair of Louis XV gilt-bronze mounted and japanned encoignures, stamped by Jacques Dubois Our pair of encoignures is stamped by Jacques Dubois, who was awarded the title of Master in 1742. Like BVRB, he specialised in the production of furniture in Chinese or Japanese lacquer or in European varnish imitating oriental lacquer. It should be noted that a pair of stamped corner pieces with the same gilt bronze falls as those on the uprights of our pair recently sold at Sotheby's New York on 2 February 2019, lot 748 (USD 30,000).
