A soft-paste Sevres porcelain, 18th century, dated 1783, from prince Yusupov's service
This plate comes from a service whose decoration is described in the Cartels (Arch. Sèvres, Vy9, f° 95). It was delivered on 31 March 1784 to the jeweller Charles Böhmer, of the firm Böhmer et Bassenge, rue de Vendôme in Paris, on behalf of Prince Nikolay Borisovich Yusupov.
In September 1784, Prince Yusupov bought a second service of identical quantity and decoration to the first. Some parts of these services are now in the Hermitage Museum in St Petersburg, in particular three plain plates from 1783 (see N. Birioukova, N. Kazakevitch, La porcelaine de Sèvres au XVIIIe siècle, Hermitage Museum, collection catalogue, pp. 169-173, no. 899-910).
Five pieces, including a plate, are in the Khanenko Museum in Kyiv, Ukraine (see L. Kravchenko, "European Porcelain in the Khanenko Museum, Kyiv", The French Porcelain Society Journal, vol. IX, 2002, p. 213).
One plate was part of the former Charles-Otto Zieseniss collection, Christie's sale, Paris, 5-6 December 2001, lot 182.
