Polychrome decoration in the centre of a bird on a shrub on a terrace and on the wing of bouquets of flowers in three reserves surrounded by garlands of flowers and palms in gold on a celestial blue background
Marked : LL interlaced, letter-date U for 1773, painter's mark Antoine-Joseph Chappuis, gilders' marks Chauvaux l'ainé and Vandé

A soft-paste Sevres porcelain plate, 18th century, dated 1773, the painting by Antoine-Joseph Chappuis
This plate may have come from a small service of 24 plates at 36 livres each bought by Madame Lair, merchant-mercier widow of Michel-Joseph Lair, who succeeded Gilles Bazin in his business on rue de Roule in Paris. See D. Peters, Sèvres Plates and Services, 2015, vol. II, n° 73-6, pp. 501-502.
The Metropolitan Museum in New York held 21 plates from this service in the Wrightsman collection, sold at Sotheby's in Monaco in 1980 (see Carl Christian Dauterman, The Wrightsman Collection, Porcelain, vol. IV, 1970, no. 110, pp. 272-274 and Sotheby's Monaco, 25 May 1980, lot 319-321).
