18th CENTURY SÈVRES TENDER PORCELAIN DISH, DATED 1770 From the service of Count Lascaris with polychrome decoration in the centre of a bouquet of roses in a medallion encircled by a garland of foliage, the wing decorated with birds on a terrace in three reserves encircled by a garland of oak leaves in gold on a celestial blue background. Marked : LL interlaced, letter-date R for 1770, marks of the painters Antoine-Joseph Chappuis and Jean-Baptiste Tandart D. 24 cm (9 ½ in.) Provenance: Service presented by Louis XV to Giuseppe Vincenzo, Count Lascaris, on 25 March 1771; Former Charles-Otto Zieseniss collection, Christie's Paris sale, 5-6 December 2001, lot 172. A soft-paste Sevres porcelain plate, 18th century, dated 1770 the painting by Antoine-Joseph Chappuis and Jean-Baptiste Tandart from count Lascaris' service This plate was part of a service presented by Louis XV as a diplomatic gift on the occasion of the marriage of his grandson Louis-Stanislas-Xavier, Count of Provence (the future Louis XVIII), to Marie-Joséphine-Louise of Savoy, the eldest surviving daughter of the King of Sardinia. It was presented on behalf of the King by Louis-Marie-Gabriel-César, Baron de Choiseul d'Esquilly, French Ambassador to the Kingdom of Sardinia, to Giuseppe Vincenzo, Count Lascaris, Minister and Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs of Sardinia, on 25 March 1771. The service comprised 84 plates at 36 pounds each. A large part of the service is kept in the Palazzo del Quirinale in Rome.
