Description
18th CENTURY SÈVRES TENDER PORCELAIN PALM DISH, circa 1769 Polychrome decoration in the centre with a group of flowers and fruit and on the side with three bunches of flowers in reserves surrounded by rocaille scrolls, reserves with a trellis background and flowering branches in gold on a celestial blue background Marked: trace of interlaced LL D. 24.5 cm (9 ½ in.) Provenance : Former Charles-Otto Zieseniss collection, Christie's Paris sale, 5-6 December 2001, lot 184. A soft-paste Sevres porcelain plate, 18th century, circa 1769 This plate was most likely part of the service delivered on 1 April 1769 to Chevalier Lambert on behalf of Francis Thomas Fitzmaurice, 3rd Earl of Kerry (1740-1818). The Earl of Kerry acquired this service shortly after his marriage in 1768 to Anastasia Daly, a woman some twenty years his senior who had divorced her first husband to marry the Earl. The Earl was known to lead a rather lavish lifestyle, which eventually led to his financial ruin and the loss of his estates in Ireland. See D. Peters, Sèvres Plates and Services, 2015, vol. II, no. 69-3, pp. 413-414.
