Description
ISLAMIC ART, INDO-PERSIAN work. Protective amulet pendant, round with multi-lobed edges, made of celadon jade and set with a central medallion of engraved gilded metal. The design features, at its centre, the name ‘Allah’ inscribed within a circular cartouche, surrounded by a radiating frieze of finely chiselled Thuluth-style Arabic calligraphy, expressing religious invocations. On the outer ring, the calligraphy is a stylised version of the Shahada (Islamic profession of faith): There is no god but God, and Muhammad is the Messenger of God. It is held in place by a red and gold braided cord ending in small beaded tassels. Diameter: 5.5 cm
