"Portrait of Baron Jean Antoine Rignon, in the uniform of colonel of the 51st line, wearing the officer's star of the Legion of Honour, the decoration of the Lily, the cross of knight of Saint Louis, the insignia of knight of the Iron Crown".

Historical background:
Our portrait of Rignon in his uniform as colonel of the 51e de ligne in the 1812 regulations is a posthumous portrait:
Rignon holds in his hand a letter addressed to him in Charleroi, where Rignon arrived with his regiment just before Waterloo.
He was killed during the battle while attempting to take La Haie Sainte with his troops.
The posthumous nature of the work is confirmed by the presence of all his decorations, both royal and imperial.
Biography :
Jean Antoine RIGNON (1775-1815)
Born in Montgenèvre (Hautes-Alpes), he served in the foot chasseurs of the consular guard, then captain in the velites corps and battalion commander in the imperial guard on 24 June 1811.
On 7 August 1814, he was a colonel and commanded the 47th Line and then the 51st Line after rallying to the Emperor during the Hundred Days.
Killed at Waterloo on 18 June 1815.
